Aging And Wisdom
“Age is just a number”. We have all at one point or another said or heard these words. So I was just thinking of how funny it is that people usually use it when they are trying hard to convince another that there is nothing wrong with dating a much older or younger person. Lol. Just me and my random thoughts. I have been thinking of how with age comes experience and with experience come wisdom. Is age really just a number?
You know how in your late teens and early twenties, you taught you knew everything until you got older and realized ‘what was I thinking?’, ‘I could have dealt with that situation way better’. We at that age always think we are all knowing. That is not to say teens are not wise or smart. Lots of them are (well at least compared to people of the same age group).
As we grew older, we saw and experienced more. Experience they say is the best teacher. But how much betrayal, lust, love, distrust, trust, heartbreak, failures, successes, fame, hard work or self-realisation can a teenager attest to? I am not that old but I have had my own fair share of experiences (which I know and hope I have learnt from) and am yet to experience which supports my thought that age is really not just a number.
I have come to realise that experiences come with time (aging). Aging and experiences make you stronger and increases your level of maturity and wisdom (well only for those who choose to learn from them and not wallow in their past). Time and age leads to self-actualization and awareness of hidden potential. I realise just as I write this how age helps you see and acknowledge who you are and what you want out of life. For instance I am more grateful for what I have (my family) and I have a clearer view of what I want (career, friends, religion, life partner, etcetera).
So do you still think age is just a number? What are your experiences? What do you know now that you wish you knew earlier?
