Energy, Power and Katika
Energy, Power And Katika
In April this year, Uberfacts was on blast for saying and I quote, “It is estimated that the entire power supply of Nigeria generates only enough electricity to power a single toaster for every 44 people.” Over exaggerated, Yes but here is another fact about Nigeria’s current power situation. On the 22nd of February this year, Thisday Live reported that Nigeria’s total estimated power supply comes to about 5,500mw that is for the 183,523,432 million of us to share.
Undoubtedly the power capacity generated in Nigeria is barely enough to run a small scale business effectively not to talk of huge multi-national companies and therefore leading to the unbelievable dependence on Generations and enormous expenses on Fuel in all forms. Nigerians consume way above 33million litres of fuel daily and let’s not get started on the cost.
Electricity is and would continue to be a major catalyst for the growth of any economy and a successful stabilisation of power would ultimately improve the lives of millions of Nigerians. Earlier this year in May, the bite of fuel scarcity brought Nigeria’s economy to a standstill as banks like GTB, telecommunication companies like MTN, Airlines like Arik all shut down as fuel marketers went on strike. This begs the question “for how long will Nigerian’s major power supply be dependent on fuel?”
Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to the future of the world in term of power generation and supply: Renewable Energy. Renewable energy is generally defined as energy that comes from resources which are naturally replenished on a human timescale such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. Worldwide investments in renewable technologies amounted to more than US$214 billion in 2013, with countries like China and the United States heavily investing in wind, hydro, solar and biofuels. At least 30 nations around the world already have renewable energy contributing more than 20% of energy supply. National renewable energy markets are projected to continue to grow strongly in the coming decade and beyond (Wikipedia).
Katika Energy Limited is a 100% Nigerian owned company that delivers innovative renewable solutions for the African region with the drive to develop and grow Africa’s renewable energy market. Our vision is to support the development of sustainable power supply by filling the vacuum of renewable energy in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. In other words, we aim to provide power supply at all levels (cooperate, government and individual levels) for as long as possible at minimal cost thereby leading to long term savings.
Our product quality is unquestionable as they are General Electric products (UPS, Inverters, batteries, solar PV, lightening bulbs). Also our services range from Energy Consultancy, Project Development & Services, Micro Finance Project Development, Research & Development and Tele Communication.
