Saraki's Court Trial Adjourned

Bukola Saraki is a Nigerian politician and is the President of the Senate of Nigeria elected under the All Progressive Party (APC aka ruling Party who by the way have being rumoured to be pushing the suspension of Senate president Saraki). He was previously Governor of Kwara State from 2003 to 2011.

Saraki is facing 13-count charge bordering on alleged corruption and false declaration of assets, leveled against him by the CCB (Code of Conduct Bureau which is pioneer anti-corruption agency set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria.  It has the primary responsibility of checking corrupt practices in the Nigerian Public service and has been doing so since 1989).

Today, Senator Saraki has pleaded not guilty to all 13 count corruption charges. On the various assets he acquired, which the Code of Conduct Bureau said his earnings did not qualify him to acquire, Mr. Saraki said he got them through his investment in rice farming. He pleaded not guilty to the charge concerning his failure to declare his assets when he was Kwara State governor. He also denied making false declaration of assets. He pleaded not guilty on the charge regarding his alleged use of foreign bank accounts while serving as a public officer in Nigeria. The court case has being adjourned to October 21 2015.

Say what you will about President Buhari and his administration so far, baba go slow, yada yada yada, i still insist that him being president has had it’s positive effect, it may not all be right presently but things and people have started working (even power that seem impossible has significantly improved). If the number three citizen in Nigeria (senate president) can be charged and made to face trial while sitting, Nigeria is moving in a positive direction. No one is above the law.

No politician knows who’s next in line to be investigated or charged. This is what we need in Nigeria. No more stealing with boldness. It is only in Nigeria a public office holder would be accused of corruption and he would go to court for immunity and negotiation. The international communities must start respecting us as people who are disciplined, who have integrity and in control of our country.

By the way up to 50 senators followed him to court, and they will be paid today for doing what? They left all they had to do today, really?

We the Nigerian people by choosing Buhari, declared war on corruption and so far he is not doing so bad with rooting out corrupt leader. More will be rooted out and disgraced and I suggest they return the funds they stole which will be infused back into the system for effect running of this country. Incoming ministers take note. None will be spared.

  1. He falsely declared his asset while he was governor. Why bring up the case now? Because he aligned with PDP to elect principal officers of the house in the absence of APC members who went for a meeting with the President. This is vendetta!
